Take a look at Coach Katie Miller's reflections on this year's volleyball season.
A great team camp experience in August that set the tone for the season. Our upperclassmen did a great job bringing home the core messages of camp to the rest of our program. With only 5 returning players from last year’s roster of 13, most would consider this a “building year” and write the season off. I have never considered any year a building year and never will. The team bought into the drive and core values. They found determination to come to practice every day and work to improve. We owned our strengths as a team and supported each other through the hard times and good times. If you look back and watch the videos from the first match to the final match, you could literally see the improvement in each and every player. It was really a phenomenal thing to see a varsity team improve this much over the course of just one season.
With our daily improvements, we didn’t place expectations on ourselves. Instead, we focused on playing our best and being true to ourselves. We finished the season with a 16-9 record. Out of our 9 losses, 4 of them came early in the season, all of our losses came from teams who made it to the postseason in their respective division, and 4 of the losses came from teams who made the final 8 tournament. That in itself is impressive, but our season highlights don’t end there. We captured a league title, a first since 2011. We played the season with courage, relentlessness, and as uncomfortable as possible.
I’m incredibly proud of this team for the season that they pursued and accomplished. We left teams frustrated in the fact that they had trouble finding holes in our defense. The rallies that we survived and came out on top were amazing.
